Contingent is supported solely by its readers, not by any university or think tank. We think that makes it possible for us to do this magazine right.
Our current monthly budget is about $1,600. We bring in about $1,500 a month from 160-odd recurring donors, which is supplemented by a cash reserve left over from our initial fundraiser. We use that money for accounting and donor management software and other infrastructural costs, paying our writers and editorial staff, and grant applications.
